The Coalition has organized a timely and informative webinar on achieving bipartisanship in immigration policy. Bipartisan solutions to immigration reform are more likely to produce stable and long-lasting policies and are less likely to be reversed when a new administration takes office. Despite disagreements on immigration policy among some politicians today, there is growing evidence that ordinary Americans of both political parties, along with independent voters, are closer to a consensus on immigration reform. Our distinguished presenters, representing four major national organizations, will brief you on how they have brought together people of different political persuasions, what they have learned from them, and how they have come together to support effective immigration policy. Our four speakers include: Jennie Murray, who is the president and Chief Executive Officer of one of the oldest and most renowned immigrant policy groups in the U.S., the National Immigration Forum; Theresa Cardinal Brown, who served for many years as Immigration Policy Director for the Bipartisan Policy Center in Washington; Keith Allred, Executive Director of the National Institute for Civil Discourse, and founder and president of CommonSense American – both initiatives designed to bridge partisan divisions and to involve citizens in policymaking; and David Rapp, co-founder of Braver Angels, a national organization dedicated to reducing political polarization, and currently director of the Citizens Commission on Immigration of Braver Angels.
We thank the members of the Coalition’s Education and Advocacy Committee for organizing this webinar. Our moderators included: Amirah Hussain, Director of Government Relations at the New Jersey State Chamber of Commerce; William Noonan, Chief Business Development Officer at Choose New Jersey; and Pat McGovern, Partner at the law firm of Genova Burns.
